AN ILLUSTRATED
TIMELINE OF ENVIRONMENTAL
HISTORY

-WORK IN PROGRESS-

The long fresco here presented is an attempt at synthesizing the major events and technical revolutions that took place since the late Paleolithic period, and through which human societies have progressively aggravated their pressure on the biosphere.

Its intention is to provide our visitors with a general background that might help them locate, within history, the specific topics addressed in the different panels of the exhibition’s central section.

Such a synthesis is of course a challenging exercise, necessarily plagued by the shortsightedness of its undertakers (in this case typical westerners, half-read in English and French). But we still thought it was worth the effort, if only to make our cultural frame of reference as explicit as possible.
